Ecological aspects
ŠROT GEBESHUBER s.r.o. respects in its plants the strictest ecological norms applicable at present in EU.
Chippings from machining processes, contaminated with various emulsions or oils, are stored in our plants in underground sheltered impermeable pits in which these substances are separated. The substances are then transferred and disposed of by partner companies specialising in hazardous waste disposal. To prevent possible contamination of the environment, the chippings are transported in watertight containers.
Due to safety reasons, other scrap is stored in outside areas formed by impermeable, reinforced-concrete monolithic slabs sloped to s storm sewer system which ends within the premises with oil traps.
Apart from the specified measures, due to financial aspects not common in the Czech Republic, our plants apply also other principles of ecologically safe operation. Samples of groundwater from a monitoring well located on the premises and of rainwater from behind oil traps are taken and analysed by an independent company regularly several times a year.
Special attention among ecological aspects of our activities is paid to transport - we consistently utilize railway which is more ecological than road transport. Since both our plants are connected to the railway network, materials do not have to be loaded to trucks, transported to a railway station and transferred to goods wagons. Materials from our suppliers as well as to our purchasers are transported from over 95 % by railway. Where railway may not be utilized, for example due to small-scale scrap collection to containers, we use MAN trucks, considered for our type of business the most suitable vehicles. The Company makes sure the vehicle fleet is regularly modernised.
Electrically driven machinery is the preferred choice for fixed equipment serving for scrap processing. Hydraulic oils necessary for the machinery operation are stored in drums in impermeable sheltered places or in steel vessels.
Since processing and handling the materials is connected with considerable noise, our plants are equipped with noise protection walls and - as requested by municipalities in which we operate - noise level measuring is performed regularly.
As part of enhancing an output control of metal scrap, at the end of 2007 the Company installed large detectors of radiation in Sokolnice and Paskov plants for detecting possible sources of radiation from metal waste collected from both citizens and businesses.
Besides the already listed measures providing protection against noise, dust and other negative effects which may occur in connection with our activities, and also in proof of our interest in the state of our environment, we keep our plants as well as the surroundings clean and tidy. This includes professional landscaping and planting trees close to the plants in order to enhance the quality of the environment.
